The 2006 Panasonic Lumix DMC-L1 and Leica Digilux 3 DSLR cameras were developed in collaboration between Panasonic K.K., Leica and Olympus. The DMC-L1 and Digilux 3 used the lens mount, mirror box, focusing and imaging sensors core from the Olympus E-330, surrounded by chassis and bodywork developed by Panasonic and Leica.

- Panasonic 7.9 Megapixel NMOS ‘Live MOS’ sensor, with image dimensions up to 3136 x 2352 pixels (7.4mp effective).
- Full user control with Aperture Priority auto exposure, Shutter Priority auto exposure, Program auto exposure and manual exposure modes.
- Porro-mirror type viewfinder with 95% field of view and 0.93x magnification.
- 2.5" TFT LCD monitor with basic overlay information, detailed overlay read-out with histogram, and allowing single TTL 'Live View' mode.
- Olympus' patented 'Supersonic Wave Filter' sensor cleaning system.
- Digital ESP, center-weighted averaging and spot metering modes.
- Single AF, continuous AF and manual focusing with all Four-Thirds lenses.
- Sequential shooting at 3fps up to 6 frames in RAW or unlimited in JPEG (high quality) with fast card.
- SD and SDHC storage cards support.
- Built-in TTL-auto flash, with bounce and direct positions.
- Leica D Vario-Elmarit 14–50mm f/2.8–3.5 kit lens, manufactured by Panasonic K. K. under license from Leica.
