Panasonic K. K., under the parent company Matsushita Electric Industrial, is a Japanese company that uses the brand name Panasonic for its electronic devices. The Lumix brand is used for still digital cameras. Many Lumix cameras and Leica digital camera models are similar, due to the recent collaboration between Leica and Panasonic in the field of digital imaging.

Panasonic's initial Four-Thirds format digital single lens reflex camera, the DMC-L1, was based on the Olympus E-330.

During Photokina 2008 the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 camera with electronic viewfinder was introduced, this was the first time that such a camera was made available for a system of interchangeable lenses, the camera featured the new Micro Four-Thirds Mount and special high-resolution color LCD viewfinder with oculare
