A field camera is similar to a view camera, with these differences:

  • lightness: common are wooden bellows camera constructions
  • often fewer or more limited movements, especially when compared to monorail cameras
  • field cameras are well foldable for portability

Sometimes press cameras are called field camera, in fact they are a kind of best possible professional compromise between portable flexible view camera and viewfinder camera.
